Reviews of the CD "On My Way to You"

Slow-burning, romantic songs with a touch of the dramatic are singer Alyson Green's speciality, judging by her selection of material for this, her second album. Leslie Bricusse's 'When I Look in Your Eyes', the Shirley Horn favourite 'Here's to Life' and the Michel Legrand-penned title-track all suit her sincere, heart-on-sleeve, confiding style perfectly, and the unfussy but elegant arrangements of pianist Mark Edwards, not to mention the accomplished playing of the likes of John Parricelli, Andy Cleyndert and Troy Miller (plus the odd solo from saxophonist/flautist Ben Castle) all contribute to a classy recording.
Green also has a sure ear for pop songs that will benefit from jazz treatment, so here she addresses Oasis's 'Wonderwall', Stealer's Wheel's 'Stuck in the Middle with You', Kirsty MacColl's 'Celestine' and Kate Bush's 'The Man with the Child in His Eyes' with the respect and imagination previous generations of singers reserved for the Great American Songbook. A particular highlight is her touching visit to the Dmitri Tiomkin/Ned Washington classic 'Wild is the Wind', to which she takes the dreamily wistful Shirley Horn approach rather than pulling out all the emotional stops as David Bowie does on his endearingly over-the-top version on Station to Station, but whatever she's singing, Green is a polished act well worth investigating.

"With songs ranging from a ravishing version of Dmitiri Tiomkin's Wild is the Wind through an intimate reinterpretation of Kate Bush's Man with the Child in his Eyes , and dancing her way through Kirsty McColl's Celestine, Alyson Green's CD 'On My Way to You' is a treat.
A lovely voice, great musicians and some beautiful, sophisticated arrangements.

This is a CD to take home and fall in love with."

"A wonderfully eclectic choice of material again by Green who demonstrates beautifully that rare and unique gift of singing from the heart. Combined with inspired arrangements by Mark Edwards this new CD is a real step-up in this promising artist's career"
